Foodbank launches Christmas gift card appeal

11th November 2020

Hundreds of struggling families in our city will face an impossible choice between paying essential household bills or putting food on the table this Christmas –  with little hope of being able to provide presents for their children.

We can’t bear the thought of any child waking up on 25 December to an empty stocking and stomach which is why we’re launching our Christmas Appeal.

This year we’d love you to consider donating money which we can use to bless the huge numbers of children we expect to feed in the run up to the festive season.

Your generosity will help us to provide gift cards specifically for toy shops in the local area to the value of £15 per child in December. With an estimated 400 children fed by us in December 2019, we anticipate demand to be high.

However, with your help we hope that we can make Christmas more than just about getting by for our clients as they strive to survive on a low income and against the backdrop of the pandemic.

We already have a large stock of toys, kindly donated to us throughout the year, which we will also be distributing as an option to families. However, the gift card appeal will enable us operate this scheme more safely and effectively, giving support to families at a time where demand for food is increasing and capacity in our warehouse is stretched due to social distancing.

You can donate and keep track of how much is being raised on our dedicated Christmas Appeal fund-raising page

We’ve also unwrapped our Christmas shopping list featuring some of the festive-themed items we’ll be including in the food parcels for our clients.
