A staff member from the University of Worcester has raised more than £1,800 for our food bank after completing the London Marathon dressed as a lumberjack.
Chris Garratt, Deputy Chief Information Officer at the university, completed the gruelling 26-mile run around the capital clutching a fake axe and dressed in full lumberjack gear, including heavy boots.
Chris had set his sights on breaking the previous race record for someone dressed as a lumberjack – but his hopes were dashed when his boots became weighed down with rainwater.
Chris said:
“I was going great at first, getting to the half marathon stage in 1 hour 43 minutes but after that it all went downhill. My boots soaked up all the rainwater in London and it turns out they were not waterproof either – after that it was like running with concrete blocks on my feet and my legs just gave up!”
“I even stopped at a St John’s Ambulance aid station along the way – they said ‘What’s wrong?’ I said – nothing I just want to sit down for a minute and contemplate my life choices!”
Chris may have missed out on the record but we’re delighted he raised such a huge amount of money to support our efforts tackling hunger in Worcester.
