Generous Tesco shoppers provided Worcester Foodbank with an early Christmas present as they showered the charity with donations during a three-day food drive.
Festive goodwill was in plentiful supply at the main stores in St Peter’s and Warndon where customers donated enough food and other essentials to fill 280 crates. Volunteers from the city’s foodbank also received around £800 in cash and Tesco gift cards, which will be used to buy stock.
Foodbank volunteers were at Tesco from Thursday to Saturday as part of the annual Big Winter Food Collection, which is organised by the supermarket giant and Trussell Trust.

Emma Green, Operations Coordinator at Worcester Foodbank, said:

We were absolutely thrilled at the support we received from customers over the three days. These donations will make an enormous difference as we prepare for what is always the busiest time of year for our foodbank. Huge thanks must go to everyone who donated or volunteered, including our friends at Sanctuary Housing and the community champions at both stores.
