Musical trio combine talents to raise funds for foodbank

A musical trio are hoping to strike a chord with the community when they hold a fund-raising concert in aid of Worcester Foodbank on Friday, 16 October. 

The Alpha Trio will perform in the historic St Helen's Church in Worcester city centre as they bid to bolster support for foodbank's efforts in tackling hunger.

The group - which is comprised of vocalist Anne Linstrum, violinist Geoff Hawcutt and Kath Bigland on keyboards - was recently formed to help raise much-needed funds for charities. 

Grahame Lucas, Manager of Worcester Foodbank, said: "Over the years music has been instrumental in raising support for our foodbank and we're delighted the Alpha Trio are combining their talents to boost our efforts to end the misery caused by hunger."

Anne Linstrum was born in Glasgow and graduated from The Royal Scottish Academy of Music, which was followed by winning two scholarships to study at The London Opera Centre. She has performed with Welsh National Opera, English Opera for All, at the prestigious Glyndebourne Festival and made many television appearances in her native Scotland and in Canada.

Since her conversion to Christianity, Anne has dedicated her talent to the service of God. She has made many recordings and is also considered an excellent voice teacher.

Geoff studied violin, organ and piano at the Royal College of Music in London. He then joined the Sadler's Wells Royal Ballet Orchestra which involved touring extensively in the UK, seasons at the Royal Opera House playing for visiting international ballet companies and performing concerts with the Royal Ballet Sinfonia.

He also spent many years teaching violin and keyboard for Worcestershire peripatetic music service - now known as Severn Arts.

Kath had many different jobs including work at Glyndebourne and the Arts Council in London as a secretary and at the Haywood Gallery. She teaches piano and began accompanying at the Hadland School of Dance and Drama. She also taught peripatetically in schools in Stratford-upon-Avon to teach piano and accompanying school events and composing music for annual school plays.

The free concert starts at 7pm with donations invited to foodbank and refreshments will also be available.
